Short History

The Valley Voices is a semi professional children's choir in which most choristers are currently undertaking private vocal tuition. Founded in 1997 as an outgrowth of the children of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Clevedon, the choir has performed at numerous concerts and functions in the Auckland area and has held several championship titles in the upper North Island. Several members of the choir are seasoned performers, having appeared in the Opera New Zealand Children's Chorus and taken major roles in international productions such as Les Miserables, The Sound of Music and West Side Story.

All members are studying at least one other instrument (orchestral and instrumental items frequently feature in VV concerts) and a number have won major championships at competitions and top prizes at the various schools which they attend. The Valley Voices sing on the CD "Love Grows Here" which was recorded in St Andrew's, Clevedon and have twice appeared on TVNZ's "Praise Be" programme.

In 2001 the choir completed a highly successful tour of the North Island, including performances in Te Papa and Parliament. In 2002-3 they gave numerous concerts, including 8 shows in the Proms Season at the Banner Theatre. Each year has concluded with a variety concert for the Papakura RSA and in 2003, for the Friends of the Philharmonia. The choir gives approximately 10 public performances in the Auckland region each year and often collaborate with other musical organizations such as the Manukau Symphony Orchestra and the Majors 'n' Minors Choirs and Orchestras. Several members are now making music their chosen careers.

The repertoire of the Valley Voices extends from classical to jazz and from sacred to contemporary. The wide variety of styles ensures that they will have a programme to suit all types of functions and events. In addition several members can offer excellent items on a variety of other instruments, both as soloists and in ensemble. The choir is led by Auckland based international soprano and teacher, Gina Sanders.
