An afternoon with Rossini - Gina with the South Auckland Choral Society conducted by Ian Tetley

Details: Rossini's sense of humour was ever present for his "Petite", and "Solennelle" mass is neither particularly small nor solemn! Ever the comic opera composer with a desire to enchant and entertain, Rossini dedicated this refined and elegant mass to the lovely Countess Louise in 1864.
Come and hear the original version of this delightful work on Sunday 28 August, 2.30 pm at the Crossroads Methodist Church.

Details: Rinaldo is a tale of magic and sorcery, love and scheming. There are many famous and sublime arias, including Lascia ch’io pianga, and what is reputed to be Handel’s own favourite, Cara sposa. The original performances used spectacular special effects, from fire-breathing dragons to flocks of live sparrows released into the audiences. This is one of Handel’s most exciting, colourful and dramatic operas.
